10.20 | Angel Heart

#10.20 #how was this snapping? #I really don’t see it #sure he was enjoying it a little more than he normally would #but that’s about it #sam believes cas though

I’ve seen a lot of people wondering the same thing, so here’s my take on it…

The above is not Dean’s normal behavior. Yes, he has done things similar to this before, but it has always been a sign that there is something wrong with him.

In 8x02, Dean similarly “snaps” during an interrogation, holding a guy against the wall with a knife to his throat.

This was right after Dean got out of Purgatory. It was an indicator of just how fragile his mental state was, and of his Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was having frequent flashbacks to Purgatory, where he had to kill and torture to survive and find Castiel.

In 9x22, Dean “snaps” while questioning the nurse angel. He wasn’t fine here. This wasn’t his normal behavior. It was an indication of how far from normal he was - later on in this episode, he tells Sam that they aren’t a team, and then in the next episode, he turns into a demon.

In 10x11, he gets (irrationally?) angry when the guy he and Sam are questioning won’t immediately give them answers. This was an indication that he was not getting better.

We then come to the most recent episode, 10x20. Dean has been working so hard to control the Mark, and he pretends that he is okay, but I think this is proof that he is losing his ability to even pretend to be able to control the Mark and its impulses.

I guess my point is that in each one of these instances, Dean has not been okay. Far from it.
